“Boureé opt spel” komt uit een Vlaams handschrift:
Het Haegelant van ca. 1753.
Bij de toevoeging “opt spel” in de titel komt de vraag op:
Waar gaat het over ?
Ik vermoed dat het op het klokkespel of beiaard gespeeld werd.
Ellen van de Grijn-Santen van het Meertens Instituut denkt aan
een rederijkers-spel of een komisch toneelstuk,
waarin vaak een dansje ten tonele kwam.

“The Boureé opt spel” comes from a Flemish manuscript:
Het Haegelant from around 1753. With the addition “opt spel”
in the title, the question arises: What is it about?
I suspect it was played on the carillon or the beiaard.
Ellen van de Grijn-Santen from the Meertens Institute believes
it could be a rhetorician (rederijkers) play or a comic play,
in which a dance often took place.
Explanation: Rhetoricians, “rederijkers” were members
of literary societies in the Low Countries
(modern-day Netherlands and Belgium)
during the late Middle Ages and Renaissance (1450 – 1650).
These societies were called “rederijkkamers” (chambers of rhetoric),
and their members practiced and promoted the art of
rhetoric, poetry, and drama.
